GIS Application in Disaster RisK Management
Disaster resilience and climate change laboratory department of Geography, University of Peshawar in the mentorship of Dr. Atta ur Rehman conducted a five days training workshop with the collaboration of HUJRA Organization under WFP and SDC funded project “Restoration of Livelihoods and DRR Initiatives for community uplift in Bajaur and Mohmand Agencies of FATA”. The theme of the training workshop was “Geographical Information System (GIS) application in disaster risk management”. The training workshop was conducted at the conference hall of Institute of Education and Research, University of Peshawar. The event was facilitated by a team of renowned resource persons, working in different universities, divisions and departments and having expertise in the field of GIS and disaster management.
Total 26 participants participated in the event, they were university and college teachers, research scholars, members of Non-Government Organizations and DRR practitioners. The event was an intensive training including lectures followed by practical exercises by all the participants.
In the closing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Amir Nawaz Khan, Ex Dean Facultyof Life and Environmental Sciences University of Peshawar, Mr. Naimat Ullah and Khalid Rasool from United Nation World Food Program (WFP) and Mr. Nawab Zada and Ismail Khan from HUJRA Organization participated. Efforts of Dr. Atta ur Rehman were appreciated by all the honorable guests for successfully conducting the training, resource persons on excellent facilitation and HUJRA organization for their contribution during training.
The event was a great opportunity to learn about GIS application in disaster risk management. On this occasion Mr. Naimat Ullah from WFP added that “Role of Academia is vital in the development activities” he further appreciated efforts of Dr.Atta ur Rehman for his contributions in the DRR sector.
